Weekly links, 6th grade - "London", "Human Reproduction" and "Modern Spain: the 19th century" 4

Good Morning!

This week, we started with the celebration of  "The School Day of Non-violence and Peace", last Monday, 30th of January. So, we talked about so important day, we saw some videos and finished our decoration. I have had a problem with the photo of the mural of group B, but I will add it here, next week. You can see the other one in our previous post.

"Día escolar de la no-violencia y la paz" 6B

As always, I'm going to sumarise what we have done along the week, and to add some links that you can see again or for the first time.

English

Along three of the days of the week, we have been working with the third unit of the "Reading and Writing" book. The topic was "Ancient Civilations" and the final exercise was a writing task about the settlement of Muslims in Madrid a thousand years ago. As usual, you have had an example to follow, in this case, about Vikings in Liverpool in the same period. Besides, because you had to base your writing on some questions, in order to facilitate your work you have used the page that I prepared for you with information enough to answer those questions. I even wrote for you the two first lines of the text...

The next step was in your hands. You have to take this activities seriously, because you know that writing is your worst skill, and as I told you, these marks are going to be esential for your final marks in the units and term evaluation.

We also did the test of unit 4. It was very, very easy and I insist that this won't be the only mark about the work that we have done in the unit!!

Apart from this, we have started unit 5 about London, and you can watch here again this two videos:

Natural Science

In natural Science, we have talked about fertilisation and about how the medical advances can help reproduction. I remind you that we will do the test of this unit next Wednesday in group B and next Thursday in group A.

We have watched these two interesting videos (not the two of them in the two groups), the first one about how ultrasound works:

The second one, about fertilisation. It is a direct link suggested from our class book. It's wonderful!

Social Science

Apart from talking about the importance of Peace, we have continued with our unit and we have seen the changes in economy and society in the 19th century in Spain. We have also talked about some important facts in Spain in the late 19th century, and we have introduced the artistic movements in that period, with short presentations about Romanticism, Realism and Modernism. Next week we will watch some videos and webpages to ilustrate this.

Arts & Crafts

Finally, my favourite, briefest and exhausting subject :-) We have continued working with parallel lines. As you know, many of you have finished the first exercice, but in most of the cases, I have directed your work, step by step, one by one. As I say: exhausting! In the second activity you will have to be more autonomus, because you will have to do more or less the same, but in a cleaner and more correct way, adding also colour and your own creativity to transform your cold and geometric works into warm and artistic pieces... Yes, you can! :-)

See you next week!
