Weekly links, 6th grade - "London", "Matter" and "Modern Spain: the 20th century" 2

Good afternoon everyone!

We have finished another intense week, specially in the English class. Apart from ending unt 5, about London, we have done another unit of the book "Reading and Writing", specifically unit 4 about "Endangered Animals". More over, today we have realised some exercises for the Ket/Pet preparation, with very positive results.

Remember to study for the test of unit 5, that we will do next Monday, 27th.

Natural Science

In Natural Science, we have studied what a mixture is, talking about Homogeneous and Heterogeneous mixtures, introducing, too, the concepts of solvents and solutes as he components of solutions.

We have watched these two videos:

Social Science

Finally, in Social Science, we have continued with unit 4, about the Spanish 20th century. We have focussed on the beginning of the century with the dictatorship of Primo de Rivera and the Second Republic. We have also introduced the sadly Spanish civil war. We have seen the next videos (obviously in Spanish):

Dictadura de Primo de Rivera (1923-1930)

La Segunda República Española

Cómo empezó la Guerra Civil Española

See you next Monday!

Weekly links, 6th grade - "London", "Matter" and "Modern Spain: the 20th century" 1

Good afternoon!

This week has been a little shorter. So, I'm writing the weekly post this Thursday, one day before than usual.

English

We started working again with the story "The Great Fire", and we have also talked about some of the most important and famous places in London, such as, Tower Bridge, the London Eye, Madame Tussauds, the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, Covent Garden or the British Museum.

Besides, on Tuesday 14th, Emily developed an interesting and funny lesson about Valentine's Day.

We have watched this brief video about the Great Fire of London in 1666:

Natural Science

In Natural Science, we have started unit 4, about "Matter". First, we have talked about the difference between physical and chemical changes; then we have seen the first lesson about the basic laws of reflection and, also, an introduction of "electricity".

We have seen some videos related to these topics, but I can only put here some of them because the others are from the webpage "Elesapiens", and we can only watch them in the class, with my password. Nevertheless, you have here two of the videos from youtube (we have only watched the second one):

What's matter?

Specular and Diffuse Reflection of Light

Social Science

On Wednesday, we did the test of unit 3, about the 19th century in Spain, and you have had the results today. You know, although they have been good, in general, you can and must study more, but over all, you have to pay more attention in the class if you want to reach better results.

We have also started (by the moment only in group B) the new unit, about the 20th century in Spain. I have introduced the unit, mainly in Spanish, sumarising the century and highlighting some of the most important events, such as our exemplary transition to democracy, the military coup attempt on February, 23rd of 1981, and even some historical sport moments, such as the unforgettable fottball match Spain-Malta in 1993.

You have here again the two videos that we have watched:

(This is a better version)

Have a good long weekend!

Weekly links, 6th grade - "London", "Human Reproduction" and "Modern Spain: the 19th century" 5

Good Afternoon!

As always, I hope that at least some of you find time to see this weekly post :-) I do it for you, very brief, mainly with video links, to review the contents of the week.

Next, you can see some of these texts and links for the different subjects:

English:

We continue with the unit about London, and we have read and listened an interesting story with Patrick, Phoebe and Alex travelling trough time and appearing in the middle of the Great Fire of London. As for the grammar, we have studied the sections Present Perfect with "ever" and "never", and Present Perfect with Simple Past Detail.

Besides, in a lesson about Pop Music, we have watched the next video as a good example of it, with the Beatles as protagonists, and one of their famous songs from that time:

Natural Science

These days, we have finished the unit about human reproduction and we have done the corresponding test. The results haven't been so bad but most of you can do better.

Next week, we are starting an interesting new unit entitled "Matter". I remind you that you will need to bring the second book (module 2).

Social Science

With regard to Social Science, we have talked about the main artistic movements in the 19th century (Romanticism, Realism, Modernism and Impressionism). Moreover, we have reviewed all the unit, working with the revision lesson.

We have watched the next two short videos about Sorolla and Gaudi (the first one with the audio mainly in Spanish, but with subtitles in English):

Remember that we will do the test of this unit (Modern Spain: the 9th century), next Wednesday, 15th of February.

Arts & Crafts

Most of you have started your second work with parallel lines and we have to finish it in one or two more sessions. I hope to put some of the pictures of your works here in the next weeks.

See you on Monday!

Weekly links, 6th grade - "London", "Human Reproduction" and "Modern Spain: the 19th century" 4

Good Morning!

This week, we started with the celebration of  "The School Day of Non-violence and Peace", last Monday, 30th of January. So, we talked about so important day, we saw some videos and finished our decoration. I have had a problem with the photo of the mural of group B, but I will add it here, next week. You can see the other one in our previous post.

"Día escolar de la no-violencia y la paz" 6B

As always, I'm going to sumarise what we have done along the week, and to add some links that you can see again or for the first time.

English

Along three of the days of the week, we have been working with the third unit of the "Reading and Writing" book. The topic was "Ancient Civilations" and the final exercise was a writing task about the settlement of Muslims in Madrid a thousand years ago. As usual, you have had an example to follow, in this case, about Vikings in Liverpool in the same period. Besides, because you had to base your writing on some questions, in order to facilitate your work you have used the page that I prepared for you with information enough to answer those questions. I even wrote for you the two first lines of the text...

The next step was in your hands. You have to take this activities seriously, because you know that writing is your worst skill, and as I told you, these marks are going to be esential for your final marks in the units and term evaluation.

We also did the test of unit 4. It was very, very easy and I insist that this won't be the only mark about the work that we have done in the unit!!

Apart from this, we have started unit 5 about London, and you can watch here again this two videos:

Natural Science

In natural Science, we have talked about fertilisation and about how the medical advances can help reproduction. I remind you that we will do the test of this unit next Wednesday in group B and next Thursday in group A.

We have watched these two interesting videos (not the two of them in the two groups), the first one about how ultrasound works:

The second one, about fertilisation. It is a direct link suggested from our class book. It's wonderful!

Social Science

Apart from talking about the importance of Peace, we have continued with our unit and we have seen the changes in economy and society in the 19th century in Spain. We have also talked about some important facts in Spain in the late 19th century, and we have introduced the artistic movements in that period, with short presentations about Romanticism, Realism and Modernism. Next week we will watch some videos and webpages to ilustrate this.

Arts & Crafts

Finally, my favourite, briefest and exhausting subject :-) We have continued working with parallel lines. As you know, many of you have finished the first exercice, but in most of the cases, I have directed your work, step by step, one by one. As I say: exhausting! In the second activity you will have to be more autonomus, because you will have to do more or less the same, but in a cleaner and more correct way, adding also colour and your own creativity to transform your cold and geometric works into warm and artistic pieces... Yes, you can! :-)

See you next week!
