Weekly links, 6th grade - "Olympic Games", "Human Reproduction" and "Modern Spain: the 19th century" 3

Good afternoon!

As you know, this week, we started with a wonderful school trip to the shopping center "El Corte Inglés" in Arroyomolinos, where you even could learn some basics about marketing. They were very honest explaining how the customers were intentionally guided by them in their shopping processes. I remembered all of that from my years in viaplus.com, which at the time was the first virtual shopping center in Spain.

Regarding the rest of the week, apart from the contents that I´m going to remind you in the next paragraphs, we have spent a little time doing some artistic works about the next celebration on Monday, 30th of January: "The School Day of Non-violence and Peace". So, I'm going to start with this. For the time being, we have only decorated one of the boards in the corridor, but we will try to do the other one on Monday. Although it hasn't a good quality, you can see here the picture:

"Día escolar de la no-violencia y la paz" 6A

And next, you can read our selected quotes much better, by Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa and John Lennon (we have used the first two):

Mahatma Gandhi

Mother Teresa

John Lennon

I have also selected these two videos"; one about Gandhi's life (with an Indian accent) and another one with the song "Pipes of Peace" by Paul McCartney. It is not a casuality that some of the most wonderful and famous songs about Peace are from members of The Beatles. Yes, they are my favourite :-)

And now, we go with the contents...

English

We have finished the unit this week, and remember that we will do the test of unit 4: "Olympic Sports" next Wednesday, 1st of February. I had selected these interesting and exemplary videos about Paralympics, although we haven't had enough time to watch them in class. In the second half of the first video, Spain plays with Great Britain in the Paralympics of Rio 2016 (we win :-) The second one is a short summary, and the last one is simply incredible!!

Natural Science

We have seen the male reproductive system and we have started to talk about fertilisation. We have also continued working with worksheets, and we don't have extra videos.

Social Science

In Social Science, we have finished to talk about the end of the Spanish Empire in the 19th century, and we have started to analyze the changes that were produced in economy and society. Although this video reflects a more modern Industrial Revolution, in the XX century, we have watched it as a funny example of the psicologycal changes that people probably suffered, too, in the 19th century, when they went from the countryside to the cities, to work in the factories. One masterpiece by Charles Chaplin...

See you next Monday!
